Requirements For Fire Fighter Learnership
- 12th grade qualification (Mathematics and Physical Science preferred).
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Must not be afraid of confined spaces or heights.
- Medical and physical fitness are required.
- Ability to work in a team and deal with stressful situations is required.
- There is no criminal record.
- Complete the learning institution’s Firefighter 1, Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, and First Aid Level 3 courses successfully.

How To Apply For Fire Fighter Learnership Program
All qualified candidates must take and pass the following mandatory fitness test.
- The reach test (1.9 m).
- 2.4 km run (Males 11minutes and Females 13 minutes).
- Push-ups (30 in 60 seconds).
- Sit-ups (30 in 60 seconds).
- Dead load transports (2 x 25 kg drums over a distance of 100 m).
NOTE:
- You must pass a written exam as well as an interview.
- Be required to submit their fingerprints or identity numbers in order for criminal records to be checked. Other criminal clearances will not be accepted.
- Be required to submit to a City medical examination.
- Be required to take a mandatory drug test at a City testing location.
Special requirements for the position:
- Non-permanent contract position for the duration of training.
- Only after successfully completing the prescribed training will candidates be appointed to a permanent Learner Fire Fighter position.

- Original National Senior Certificate (NSC: Schools) or
- National Certificate (NSC: FET Colleges) or National Certificate (NSC: FET Colleges) or National Certificate (NSC: FET Colleges) (Vocational).
